Capita Children’s Services has announced that it will extend the reach of its One case management system so that it supports the youth services divisions of local authorities.
A new module for the One suite, used by 120 children’s services departments, will support Connexions and wider youth services functions.
The announcement from Capita further defines the company’s intent to give local authorities one central record for each child from birth to 19 years of age. One already manages pupil data from schools, social services, nurseries and children centres.
The new Integrated Youth Support Services (IYSS) module will reduce the need to re-key in data, as all agencies will be able to access the same core data on young people. One already holds details of age, gender, location and the education history of young people in the authority, enabling youth services teams using IYSS to know a great deal about the nature of the population they support. This will help them tailor services much more effectively and measure whether they are meeting targets.
Nic Fell, product director at Capita Children’s Services said: “The children’s services departments we work with have made it clear that they do not want their data on children and young people stored in disparate systems. They want it all together, so they only have to maintain one set of information about a child, thereby reducing costs, potential errors and removing the need to re-key in data that exists elsewhere. We share the same vision – a single record for each child that all services feed into. Our announcement to move into managing the data for youth services teams further defines our intention to deliver this.”
The module will manage a Connexions advisor’s case load and will track the progress that individual young people are making as a result of the advice offered. It will be browser based so that it can be accessed securely from any location with an internet-enabled device; ideal for use when youth workers are off-site. IYSS will also manage details of wider activities that young people can access, such as clubs and courses, and can measure the outcomes of these activities so the effectiveness of the services can be easily gauged. |
